Frequently Asked Questions
How do you add or subtract fractions?+
Put both fractions over a common denominator, then add or subtract the numerators. For example, 1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6. This calculator finds the common denominator and reduces the answer for you.
How do you multiply and divide fractions?+
To multiply, multiply the numerators together and the denominators together: 2/3 × 3/4 = 6/12 = 1/2. To divide, multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction: 1/2 ÷ 1/4 = 1/2 × 4/1 = 2.
What does "lowest terms" mean?+
A fraction is in lowest terms when the numerator and denominator share no common factor other than 1. For example, 6/8 reduces to 3/4. The calculator always reduces the result automatically and also shows it as a mixed number when applicable.
Is anything I enter stored?+
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
